This Fibre Channel (FC) storage expansion unit option uses switched technology that can help provide improvements in performance and reliability for IBM eServer xSeries servers. Designed for select IBM TotalStorage DS4000 Midrange Disk Systems, this option expands the highly scalable, high-performance DS4000 family with a new 14-bay, 2 Gbps, rack-mountable FC drive enclosure. It is designed to provide improved reliability and efficiency utilising internal switch technology to attach to each disk drive within the EXP710 enclosure. It can be used with the IBM TotalStorage DS4500, DS4400 and DS4300 with Turbo Midrange Disk Systems that have been updated to the latest firmware level provided with DS4000 Storage Manager v9.10. This option is designed to support the same 2Gbps FC disk modules available for the IBM TotalStorage DS4000 EXP700 providing more than 2TB of disk storage capacity per enclosure. It can be used with the DS4000 EXP700 Storage Expansion Unit on the same DS4500, DS4400 and DS4300 with Turbo Disk Systems.
